Chris Hoye, Ed.D.
Principal

Dr. Hoye graduated from Syracuse University in 1993, the same year he assumed his position as the Principal of Gateway School. His career spans over 38 years working with individuals with disabling conditions and their families in New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island.

Dave Mock, M.A
Supervisor of Instruction

Before assuming administrative responsibilities in 2001, Dave Mock had worked as both a Teacher Assistant and Teacher, here at Gateway and in the public schools. Mr. Mock brings years of hands-on practical classroom experience to his role as Supervisor of Instruction. Mr. Mock is a graduate of Syracuse University and received a Master’s Degree in Education from Kean University.

Illyce Williams, OTR
Occupational Therpist/Related Services Specialist

Since 1996 Ms. Illyce Williams has provided quality Occupational Therapy services as part of the clinical and administrative staff at Gateway School. She has years of experience in Sensory Integration techniques and other strategies and works closely with the classroom teachers to provide a collaborative model of intervention. For the past 12 years she has also served as part of the management team as the Related Services Specialist coordinating the OT, ST, PT and Counseling programs.

Beth Solomon, MS
Speech Therapist

As our Senior Speech and Language specialist, Ms. Beth Solomon has been a valued member of the Gateway faculty for over 20 years. Her experience with Augmentative Communication devices and designing individualized programs allows her to reach even the most challenging students.

Clare Colandrea, RPT
Physical Therapist

Ms. Colandrea graduated from Ithaca College in 1992 and is a Registered Physical Therapist (RPT). She has served the Physical Therapy needs of the Gateway students since 1995. She is a team player who often collaborates with the Physical Education department to create fun activities to literally stretch the students to their limits.

Debra Shanin, MSW
Counselor

Ms. Shanin provides individual and group counseling to the Gateway students and works closely with all the classroom teachers. She graduated with an MSW degree from NYU and brings almost 30 years of experience in the field of Social Work and Human Services to her position here at Gateway.

Patricia Gutowski
SLE and Transition Coordinator

Ms. Gutowski has over 30 years experience in Special Education. Her current position at Gateway School is the Structured Learning Experience (SLE) and Transition Coordinator. Over the past 20 years at Gateway School she has worked with the high school students providing job sampling experiences and training in job-related behaviors, preparing them for transition to the world of work. Among her many accomplishments Ms. Gutowski currently serves on the national board of the APSE.

Steve Jones
Physical Education Teacher

Mr. Jones has been a valued member of the Gateway faculty since 1990. Every year he teaches competitive and non-competitive team sports; Special Olympics teams in Track & Field, Bocce and Weight-lifting; and swimming at the local YMCA. He does a fantastic job teaching students sportsmanship, cooperative play skills, and life-long recreational activities. He is also a certified instructor in Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) and provides training to the staff throughout the school year.

Lori Hoos
Music Teacher

Ms. Hoos has been teaching Gateway students in Music and performing arts for over 15 years. She provides both group instruction as well as individual lessons, teaching students piano, guitar and recorder. There are several musical productions throughout the year including two major shows when parents and relatives come together to celebrate the holidays in December and Graduation in June.

Robin Freed, MSN, MPH
School Nurse

Ms. Freed began at Gateway in 2008 and brings many years of educational training and experience to the position as the full-time School Nurse. She holds a Master’s Degree from Columbia University and completed her School Nursing training at Seton Hall Univeristy. She collaborates with the other School Nurse, Cheryl Cammarata, and with the classroom teachers, to provide health services and education to the Gateway students.
